Overview Basics of Maps Maps Through History Geographical Areas

Geographical Areas

The East Coast of the United States can be looked at from various perspectives, by state, by region (New England, Middle Atlantic, Southeast), or by smaller geographical and political boundaries. In this section, American Shores focuses on the Middle Atlantic region and its many geographical features. A few carefully chosen maps from the digital collection are used to highlight the wide variety of types of maps and types of information they contain. Explore the Middle Atlantic region through maps showing geographical features -- rivers, bays, canals - as well as the cities, villages, city streets, property owners, businesses, and more that developed as the country grew.
