The ultimate legal and institutional implementation
of the principles and aims of the French Revolution was the
issuance
of the Civil Code (1804), to be followed by special codes in
subsequent years, drafted under Napoleon's supervision. It
was imposed on the territories conquered by the French army
and was copied by most countries as a means to overcome the "feudal" order,
and to sustain the process of modernization in economic and
public life.
