NYPL, Slavic and Baltic Division

This engraving depicts the Reception Hall of the Palace of Facets as it appeared during the reign of Empress Anna (r. 1730–40). Note that the frescoes from the Muscovite period have been painted over, giving the room a more "European," "Latinate" appearance. Historic diplomatic gifts of silver and gold surround the column, at center.
