Flash back/foward in film, tv, new media

Comparing the present to the past was a popular plot device in epics at the end of the silent film era. Cecil B. De Mille's first film of The Ten Commandments was one of many that used flash forwards and flashbacks from biblical stories to condemn the morals of contemporary (1920s) society.
