Dear sister,

I never thought I’d be writing to you from a camp, but there is nothing one can do against fate. Now, concerning our parents, may they live long, I already asked [my wife] and Laja Dina about them, but I didn’t get a reply. I am very nervous about them—perhaps you know more. Please write me immediately.

Now my dear, maybe you can use your clout with the camp administration and get permission to visit me in person. I would be so happy.
