Letter to Raizel and Blima Garncarz, in Polish, Bergen-Belsen, Germany, October 10, 1945
NYPL, Dorot Jewish Division,

In Bergen-Belsen, Sala’s friend Susi Ginter obtained Raizel and Blima’s address in Sweden. Sala immediately wrote to her sisters in her native Polish, describing moments of her five years as “Gehenna,” Hebrew/Yiddish for “hell.” She reassures them that she is healthy, has good friends around her, and has saved the photographs of their beloved parents.
