Only Way, adapted from A Tale of Two Cities. Martin-Harvey
appeared in numerous productions of this play from the late
19th century to early 20th. |
Two clergymen, the Reverends Wills and Langbridge,
seized Dickens’s twelfth novel, A Tale of Two Cities,
and turned it into a play called The Only Way. John Martin-Harvey
made a career out of playing Sydney Carton and uttering those immortal
lines “It is a far, far better thing that I do than I have ever
done….”
