Two clergymen, the Reverends Wills and Langbridge, seized Dickens’s twelfth novel, A Tale of Two Cities, and turned it into a play called The Only Way. John Martin-Harvey made a career out of playing Sydney Carton and uttering those immortal lines “It is a far, far better thing that I do than I have ever done….”
