  Cartoon of J. H. Haverly
Unidentified newspaper, April 12, 1879
The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Billy Rose Theatre Collection

Producer J. H. Haverly, who managed theaters in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, took advantage of the new railroad networks to move performers and scenery from city to city and theater to theater. This cartoon presented his various real estate ventures as toy theaters, his star performers as balloons, and his Minstrel troupes as toy soldiers.
