The yellow highlights clearly show, for propaganda purposes, the looming French presence on the rich fur-bearing western and northern frontiers. The minimal Spanish claim in Florida is barely worth a mention. Douglass's work, while criticized by some, has been described as very, very influential on successive writers. |
